Common questions

Which sources does DarkRoom support?

Iridium-192 and Cobalt-60 gamma sources. DarkRoom does not cover X-ray tubes.

What is the R factor, and where do I get mine?

R is your crew's film-and-processing factor in the slide-rule shot-time formula. Use the R your crew already runs. If you have a shot you trust, Exposure's Learn R works out a corrected R from the density you got and the density you wanted.

Will my shot times match the timer my crew already uses?

DarkRoom uses the common slide-rule field formula, so an R factor your crew already uses carries over. Always confirm against a known shot before you rely on a new tool.

What does the Γ setting change?

Γ, the exposure-rate constant, sets the barricade and boundary distances in Exposure and Exclusion Zone. It does not change the shot time. Match it to your company's procedure.

Which codes are covered?

API 1104 (22nd Edition), ASME B31.3-2024 Normal Fluid Service, ASME Section V-2025 geometric unsharpness and IQI selection, and AWS D1.1:2025. The limits are plain-language summaries. The governing code edition, the contract and your written procedure always control.

Does DarkRoom replace a survey meter?

No. Boundary lines are open-air estimates. Confirm every boundary and barricade with a calibrated survey meter.

What does the Apple Watch app do?

It shows the running shot countdown from your iPhone and taps your wrist when the shot ends. You can stop the shot from either device.

Does DarkRoom work offline?

Yes. Every calculation runs on your device with no internet connection.
